Practical and light. Just right for city walking. August 22, 2010 A Cowan I bought this as a light weight alternative to my Billingham 445 which is too heavy fully loaded for a walking trip around New York. The Lowepro is smart, well made and holds a surprising amount. I managed to fit a Nikon d80 with Sigma 10-20 in central section. A 50mm and 18-135mm either side plus a 70-300 in the top pocket. Also room for odds and sods in the smaller pockets. Comfortable and the transition from back pack to front pack is quick and simple. Also a handy carry on flight bag if not full of photo gear. I like this bag a lot and will use it a lot more than I thought. Only down side is a lack of decent loops for a monopod but I was aware of this before purchase.
Great but a little small. August 9, 2010 JMTry This is a great product, and it does fit the camera perfectly (Canon EOS 1000D) I can fit both my 18-55mm and 35-105mm EF lenses in the back attached or detached from the camera body. I can fit two medium sized speedlights and wireless triggers in the top pocket as well as a macro extender and 58mm hood. The front pocket easily holds spare batteries.
The only reason this is a little small is that I added a Battery grip to my camera kit. This makes the camera just a little bit too big to fit into the bag with a lens attached. This is not a significant issue as I only have two lenses and they fit inside with the camera body without issue. However, all this does mean that the great slingshot design (which does work really well) is a little wasted on me. My camera is either out and on or away and off.
The bag is very comfortable to carry. I walked up Mt.Snowdon with this bag on and it was not my back or shoulder that ached by the end!
I would certainly recommend this, but again don't expect to use it to its full functionality with a battery grip.
Lowepro Slingshot 100 August 9, 2010 jim mitchell I find the Slingshot 100 ideal for my purpose. It holds my Nikon D3000, 2 zoom lenses, a Sony HD camcorder and all the peripherals such as chargers, leads SD Cards etc. Being a wheelchair, user, I can keep the Slingshot in front of me, and can get quick access to all cameras. It can also hang at the rear of the wheelchair when not required. Although the 100 has now been superceded, it is the ideal size for me and not too heavy, but the others in the range would be equally as good for larger equipment.
Slick in form and functional in substance August 7, 2010 Nomad in Caledonia (Scotland) My second lowerpro purchase and another success:
- easily worn as backpack
- can be worn as kangaroo bag in a way that makes its very easy (and quick !) to take out a camera, take a shot and put it back.
- compartments are held together by velcro straps which gives ample flexibility to arrange interior as your specific kit requires
- has a slick but sufficiently cryptic appearance that doesn't advertise your GBP 500 camera to petty thiefs
Very effective August 6, 2010 GreyArea (Gloucestershire United Kingdom) Great for taking on trips where you want up to 3 lenses.
I use my 100AW every day; I fit in my 450D (Rebel Xsi), 18-55mmIS, 55-200mmIS with hood, Sigma 10-20mm with hood.
In addition to this, 4 or 5 77mm filters, spare batteries, a 19cm long "Rocket-blower" and tons of other tiny bits such as lens cloths and SDHC cards.
The maximum length of lens you can fit in the lens bays of the bag is about 12cm, if you carry 3 lenses and a Rebel-sized body.
There is probably just enough space to fit the camera in with a battery grip attached - although I don't have one of these.
The bag is comfortable to carry and inspires confidence, especially when used with the steadying strap. The pull-out rain hood is a nice touch too.
Recommended for those who, like me, don't want to take more than a grands worth of kit out at a time.
